Character History
Ever since his childhood, Richard had admired the police for the ideals and beliefs that they stood for. Strength. Honor. Courage. Dignity. Those were the traits that he aimed to follow from a very young age. They were the 'good guys', fighting against the evil organizations that plagued Hong Kong and its streets. For most of his life, he saw things in black and white, and he believed that the police truly were on the side of his vision of justice.

Ignoring his parents' requests to follow in their footsteps and take over the bakery, he decided to join the force on his eighteenth birthday. Coincidentally, his powers kicked in on that day. During his training, he found his skills to be levels above his teachers'. People believed that he was a natural genius, a prodigy. He rose up the ranks quickly, managing to be an Inspector of the Organized Crime and Triad department at the young age of twenty.

However, the further he went, the more muddled his ideals became. Things were no longer in black and white; he began to see numerous shades of gray. He was held back by his superiors, and he engaged in illicit activities for the sake of justice. The image of the police that he had so admired in his young age had disappeared and was replaced by reality; a bureaucracy that would do anything to protect the people of the city. He couldn't blame them. He understood that they were willing to throw away their own morality for the sake of peace. And yet, he was discouraged. He began to deteoriate, as his enthusiasm lessened and his beliefs wavered.

Then, he fucked up. He messed up a crucial opportunity to bring a man to justice. The skills that he was praised for during his career finally failed him at that one moment, as his mastery faded away a few days ago. He was demoted for his error, and that began a slippery road downhill. Pretty soon, he was nothing more than an ordinary police grunt, working at a desk doing his own superiors' paperwork. That was the lowest point of his life, and at that moment he promised himself that he would never waver again.

He started anew, and slowly made his way up to the top once more. He developed his lost abilities during the process, and eventually discovered his powers that way. Richard was no longer a prodigy, but he still managed to become a Chief Inspector of his division through sheer determination. The hesitation that he had the first time around was gone.

Eight months ago, he was put undercover as part of an operation to investigate the 14K Triad. Richard became Harding Yau, an intermediary between the 14K and several US companies involved in money laundering. He would often dirty his hands with illicit money; doing something that he long ago thought that he would never be involved in.

Every step of the way, he has to remind himself that he is doing all this for the sake of justice.
Character Personality
Richard is a man who puts his business before his own feelings. He knows what he has to do, and will do it while ignoring his own emotions. He knows what he is doing is wrong, but he kills that side of himself to allow his professional side to act uninhibited. That hasn't much an issue recently, as that side of himself has adjusted to the darker side of justice. Yet, it does pop up from time to time in critical situations.

He is also very antisocial, since he feels that attachments would only slow him down. That's what he tells himself, though he secretly doesn't want to involve anybody he knows into his world. Or rather, get involved with his professional side. He's really a friendly person at heart, but that all fades away once he has a job to do. That darker part of himself takes things very seriously, and will do whatever it takes to succeed.

He has been afraid of himself for quite some time now.

Harding, on the other hand, is a very polite and easygoing fellow. He likes having people around, and especially enjoys social occasions. He is also very honest, telling people what he really feels even though they might not like it (in a very polite manner). He enjoys the excitement of performing illicit activities, saying that his life would be very boring if he only followed the straight and narrow. At the same time, he is also a businessman, and like any good businessman, he is always looking out for number one.
Character Appearance
Richard cares very little for appearances, as he thinks that looking good should be the least of his concerns. If he could, he would walk outside in nothing but his underwear, though that wouldn't be acceptable in his current state. Harding cares a bit more about his image than Richard does, and so Harding's wardrobe is mainly composed of high-class attire that Richard would usually never wear. He keeps himself in good shape, and even looks younger than he really is.
